Boom or No Boom?
Sunday's composite radar is showing a little bit of thunderstorm action 5 to 6 pm in the Regina and southeast Saskatchewan area. Here are the hrrr and NAM Nest forecast models as of 12z. Please refer to our blog for source links. Likely a low to moderate intensity risk, check local forecasts and wait for the official outlook map before getting too excited. There is a non-zero tornado risk later into the evening further east.

Where in the world are the Supercells? September 1st?

Where in the world are the Supercells? According to this morning's GFS, September 1st might be the next potential date however it has not been very consistent with this. North central Saskatchewan has the SSC this time but it has moved around and disappeared from the models at times so there really is nothing to get excited about at this point. Generally we are looking at Harvest Season type weather, dry and sunny, perfect for the crops!

It's not just our page: Facebook Experiencing Widespread Suspensions Due To Errors

This from Google Ai Overview on a search to find out what is going on:

Facebook is currently experiencing reports of widespread group and personal account suspensions due to technical errors and policy enforcement, with Meta acknowledging a technical error that caused some wrongful suspensions but stating the issue is wider than initially reported. Violations of Community Standards, such as spam, fake accounts, or impersonation, remain common reasons for account suspension, but many users are reporting suspensions for content that doesn't appear to violate policies Users can appeal decisions, though they often face frustration with the lack of human support for these automated or AI-powered moderation systems.

Storm Season Ends With A BANG! #abstorm #skstorm #yxe

According to this morning's GFS the long term outlook is nothing but heat waves and zero rain for the eastern prairies.

Winds reached nearly 150km/hr in last nights big storm that ripped across the western prairies from Brooks to Saskatoon.

Potentially multiple tornadoes but so far no perfect video to confirm any of them. The lightning was the real show around Saskatoon. The #skstorm hashtag is full of videos on X.

Big Storms Today: What the models say..

There is a vast difference as usual between the hrrr and NAM Nest models once again. Here are some clips of the most potentially significant severe weather. Generally along the SK/MB border there will be high risk of strong tornadoes. Another dangerous storm is expected in western Saskatchewan. Large hail and damaging winds will be the main factors there. The NAM Nest actually pins a maximum wind of 68 knots or 126km/hr as you can see in the last image. Some really impressive images here, now we wait and see how it all pans out.

Upgraded: High Risk Today / Risk of Tornadoes SK/MB

ECCC has upgraded today's Thunderstorm Risk to High along the SK/MB border. Tornadoes, hail up to 6cm and wind gusts up to 110km/hr are the main risks in the orange zone. #skstorm #MBStorm
Note: The storms are expected to emerge from the Regina area around noon and we are charging all devices in case there is a thunderstorm show to film here.

Tuesday Turning To Wednesday?

Today's Thunderstorm Outlook from PASPC has downgraded the risk and models suggest things are being delayed until Wednesday. Central Saskatchewan will be the focus this evening with a moderate risk of severe thunderstorms. On Wednesday the storms ramp up significantly according to the latest NAM Nest. Border areas of western and southeastern Saskatchewan could see some top level action but keep in mind these models have been changing drastically run to run. Things WILL CHANGE, stay safe by keeping up to date with the latest here and by watching the skies, radar and official alerts.

Thunderstorm Outlook with Risk of Tornadoes in Alberta

It was very foggy this morning in Regina, models show that as it clears up the thunderstorms also clear right out. Absolutely zero rain or anything close to a thunderstorm on both hrrr and NAM Nest forecast models across the eastern prairies this evening. Tuesday looks like our day. Tornadic storms from Alberta this afternoon and evening should arrive in southern Saskatchewan by Tuesday afternoon/evening according to the NAM Nest.

Sunday, August 17th, 2025 Moderate Risk for Saskatoon Regina and Yorkton #skstorm

Here is today's thunderstorm outlook plus current radar with lightning overlay which shows how active the weather is already as of 9am this morning. Forecast models suggest a strong storm popping up either at 3 to 4pm or 6 to 7pm depending on the model. Both showing the storm starting off in the Regina city area, one more spread out and dumping more rain than the other. Timing will be key today. There might be a very short window to film a storm today at Wascana Lake, should be a fun day!

Sunday Models: Potential Storms for Regina

The 12z runs of both NAM Nest and hrrr show thunderstorm activity in the city of Regina area Sunday evening, August 17th, 2025. Rainfall totals show a couple storms, one for the north side and the second will cover the city mostly on the south side later at night. Keep in minds these models change a lot from run to run. Radar and sky watching is the best way to know if there is a storm. The computer is just tossing out guesses. Not an official forecast, its Play by Play of Local and International Weather Events!

Saturday Multi Sector Supercells

Here is today's thunderstorm outlook from PASPC showing multiple sectors in the yellow moderate risk zone. Tornado risk for Edmonton and areas to the east of the city today. Southern Saskatchewan is primed for a strong supercell along the southern border. Sunday looks much better for the city of Regina for multiple waves of storms. Generally today will be the western prairies.

New 18z NAM Nest = 10pm Storm in Regina

The latest update to Saturday's potential has the storm directly entering the city of Regina between 10pm and 11pm according to the NAM Nest.

Saturday Southern Saskatchewan Supercell? Latest Model..

So far each run has been consistent showing a storm south of Swift Current popping up late Saturday afternoon and quickly going very big. This is the NAM Nest 6z radar composite, which has back further away from Regina compared to previous runs but the initiation point remining the same. Now waiting to see the 12z, if anything major changes we will post it here or on X @StormRangerBike. Considering doing more posts on SaskaTube via Twitch and YouTube as we are still awaiting our appeal on Facebook. Mobile live streams will be on Saskatchewan Storms and Wildlife Wonders YouTube channel while we will stick to Twitch for in-studio live streams with the weather station and skycam.

Next Supercell Potential for Saskatchewan: August 17, 18, 19, and 20th! #skstorm

Here is the latest GFS Supercell Composite and it continues to show August 18-19 as the focus for the next supercell situation in Saskatchewan with the 17th and 20 added this run. It has consistently been showing this activity for several days now.

PASPC Thunderstorm Risk - August 14th, 2025 High Risk Eastern Manitoba

Wind gusts up to 120km/hr east of Winnipeg are possible later this afternoon and evening with risk of a tornado and large hail.

Forecast models are struggling to keep up for some reason, best to watch radar because a lot of the data is missing elements. Here is a snip of what the latest composite radar from the hrrr shows at 8pm SST or 9pm Manitoba Time.
