Saskatoon - Smoky and Muggy - No Storms Yet...

We have some very warm, muggy air now to go with forest fire smoke. There is a pretty good chance of severe thunderstorms today in central Saskatchewan but so far storms have gone much further north-east. Still, with a cold front due to pass through here as the sun goes down, storms could come out of nowhere. Conditions are just about perfect with a nice steady wind to help it all out. I took a short drive out towards Rosthurn and found a kilometre wide swath of rain around 3:30pm. It now appears to be building up big with warnings for the Nipiwin area. Dewpoints are 22 in Nipiwin and 20 in Saskatoon. Echo tops are now reaching 50 000 feet high. That is nearly maxed. As the sun goes down that monster could back-build in a hurry.

Here are some early photos:

Forest Fires Bring Smoke To Saskatoon

The air in Saskatoon is normally pretty clean with the usual exception of dust when the weather is windy and dry. Today however, we are choking on a major cloud of smoke from the forest fires up north. Here a quick link to the CBC story.

Saskatoon Gets Rain

Not much to report from Saskatoon except for more rain. Not even enough for a minor flood.

Kayaking, bird watching, fishing and wildlife photography are my summer hobbies when waiting for storms. See my adventures on YouTube!

I build a daily map of storm risk for the Canadian Prairies to accomplish two things. One, translate the complications of the meteorologists into something simple that the public can understand clearly. Two, become a buffer on social media to either raise the alarm and calm the masses depending on the level of hype.

Storm chasing is limited nowadays to a few photo ops by Wascana Lake in Regina or up north at Pratt Lake. Generally, I spend more time tracking storms from home and sharing forecasts and great footage on Twitter which saves on gas and keeps me safe in my studio/bunker.

There are two seasons in my world, storm season and gaming season. April and September separate the two. I play FIFA, Sea Of Thieves and Fortnite with live streams on Ask me about sports, I am a fan and knowledge base of all things FIFA, Premier League, CFL and NFL (yes its all football).

Thanks for all the likes, shares, comments and encouragement. Stay safe and enjoy the weather!
