Big Wind Storm This Weekend

October 3rd, 2024 (forecast model data as of this morning)
Wind Gust Animation - NAM Nest Forecast Model
Its gonna get WINDY. Starting off along the Alberta foothills, we have a strong wind that develops near Lethbridge and flies into Montana before pushing east into southern Saskatchewan and Manitoba. Friday night through Saturday and Sunday morning the big winds will cross from Alberta to Montana into southern Saskatchewan and southern Manitoba. Up to 70 knots is possible in central Montana, up to 60 knots in southern Manitoba and 50 knots in southern Saskatchewan over the weekend. Should be relatively light winds Thursday and Friday morning unless this forecast changes drastically again.
Note: We had a 6 degree forecast temperature drop from 25C to19C in Regina, trying to figure out what the real weather will be for Friday. Something is off and the Solar Flare of X9 is the prime suspect.

Low Risk Produces Multiple Tornadoes In Saskatchewan

We were in the grey risk zone for light thundershower possibilities at most, forecast models originally showed Wednesday as a non-event day. What actually happened was a line a rain over Regina kicked off strong convection from Moose Jaw to Bethune for only a few radar updates. It looks like that tiny line of storm cells was able to produce multiple weak tornado funnels that were able to disturb the ground. Still waiting, early this morning to hear some kind of official confirmation but from the video there seems to be no doubt at least one tornado will be confirmed that was near Bethune, the other one was allegedly north of Moose Jaw, not far off from Bethune.

Current Snow Cover and Wildfire Maps

Spring is starting off a little slower this year, good thing to see the snow is now far away and wildfire smoke is minimal. Tornadoes have kept well south for the most part of the usual Tornado Alley in the states in April, that could change in a hurry but first there needs to be fog and lot more rain on the now very dry Canadian Prairies.
