Friday Severe Weather Outbreak in Saskatchewan

Sounds like something big is brewing for tommorrow. Right now we have storms in southern Alberta moving into western Saskatchewan tonight, and another cluster of big cells in south-east Saskatchewan moving in to Manitoba. I haven't had much time to look at the forecast for Friday but the buzz is on... look here:

Manitoba Tornado Disaster

Several tornadoes have been reported to have destroyed lake areas north of Winnipeg on Saturday. Information is slow to come in but photos of the twisters have been posted on CBC and CTV. Injury (dozens) and damage numbers have been increasing as the day goes on but at least one person is dead another is in critical condition and the damage photos are disturbing. This storm was predicted two days ahead of time with a high risk issued at 11am on Saturday for the area by saskatoonscanner.com. Video from the storm when it hit Saskatoon on Friday will be posted this afternoon. The weather is expected to be clear for the next few days on the Canadian prairies while central Ontario in eastern Canada is under another high to moderate risk for severe weather. This already deadly system is moving towards central Quebec for Sunday night and Monday.

Photos from today's storms

About an hour north-west of Saskatoon, somewhere near Arelee or Eagle Creek, we followed a pretty surprisingly interesting storm. With the report from Environment Canada about large hail in this system, and a diamond shape on radar with right-turning action in the middle, it was hard to pass up. The first photos show where we thought we saw a tornado although it was very far away. We had a great view but not many roads to choose from to get any closer. We are facing west here and Biggar is most likely somewhere on the other side of the hill and behind the clouds.

We tried to go back south and west, ending up near Perdue, then Laura where it got away on us and we got wrapped in rain and headed home.

Video may be posted later, depending on the quality (it's not great).
